Canary Care
App and webapp design of Canary Care's home care monitoring system, which empowers families and care teams with discreet sensors and constant insights. The home screen from the redesigned Canary Care webapp.
When I started working at Procode, my focus was primarily on the My Utilita app design, but I also worked on the initial redesign of the Canary Care product. This was a total overhaul of an existing product, with an outdated design. Utilita’s marketing team created a new brand bible for the new version of Canary Care, which I used as a starting point to create the updated version of the webapp platform. I wanted the design to be clear, fun and non-medical to differentiate itself from some of its competitors.
I used a basic design system, using the brand bible which I inherited from the marketing team. The alerts, reports and calls to action had to be clear, but I wanted the primary yellow brand colour to be the hero, since it was so distinctive and unique to Canary Care.

There is also hardware associated with the Canary Care product, which needs an app to get it all set up. I worked closely with the hardware team to design the setup app - which needed to be very clear and explain to the user how to easily install a set of non-obtrusive sensors and monitoring devices into a person’s home.
I designed the screens to be consistent with the webapp, to create a seamless joined up experience. I created prototypes of this app and we tested it with several stakeholders to ensure that the requirements were being met. I designed these screens to be bold, clear, bright and accessible.
Ultimately, the design direction pivoted to something much more pared back and neutral, but I enjoyed my time working on the Canary Care product, and my initial app design were used as a starting point for the final version of the live production app.
