Oxford IB Diploma Programme: Course Companion iBooks

I worked on the initial print designs (cover and interior layout design) of Oxford IB Course Companion Economics 2e, and Theory of Knowledge. In 2012 Apple contacted Oxford University Press in order to publish and promote these titles as iBooks for the iPads. I worked very closely with Apple in order to get these two products published on the iBook store.

The two titles which the iBooks were based on. Economics was adapted first, then TOK after the success of Economics.

The first part of the project was to redesign the published books to a different digital format. I worked closely with typesetters in India to get this first stage done. Then I created the digital UX by changing the print features into a digital experience. So the images could all be lightboxed when tapped on, and the case studies and questions were all placed in the margin as buttons, which would then open as modals.

This was a really exciting project for me. I had regular meetings with Apple, and the project was mentioned by Tim Cook during one of his keynote presentations to staff. Most importantly, it solidified my desire for venturing into the digital design space. Not long after working on this project I made my move to Diffblue to begin working on digital products.
